Introduction

Rifampicin is an antibiotic which is used to treat a variety of infections. It is frequently used to treat tuberculosis (in combination with other medications).

Rifampicin can also be used for prophylaxis in those who have had close contact with tuberculosis or meningitis.

Mechanism of action

Inhibits bacterial DNA dependent RNA polymerase preventing transcription of DNA into mRNA

  • Hepatitis, orange secretions
