Introduction

Pompholyx is a type of eczema which affects both the hands (cheiropompholyx) and the feet (pedopompholyx). It is also known as dyshidrotic eczema.

Epidemiology

  • Incidence: 2.00 cases per 100,000 person-years
  • Peak incidence: 30-40 years
  • Sex ratio: 1:1

Clinical features

  • Small blisters on the palms and soles
  • Pruritic, sometimes burning sensation
  • Once blisters burst skin may become dry and crack

Management

  • Cool compresses
  • Emollients
  • Topical steroids
